The Anti-Pressure Effects of Cannabidiol (CBD)

Everyone has an endocannabinoid system (ECS). It is a biological system composed of what are known as endocannabinoids. For the scientifically literate, these are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout our central and peripheral nervous systems. For the rest of us, this essentially means that we have loads of neurological sockets in our brain that only become active after interacting with some of the active compounds in cannabis. The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes ranging from fertility to memory, and it could well have an effect on high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is a condition by which the pressure in your arteries is elevated between normal levels, meaning your heart has to work harder than normal to pump blood throughout the body. Stress, poor diet and ageing all lead to hypertension. Given our modern lifestyles and data, it is no surprise that the number of people with high blood pressure keeps going up. According to numerous studies, hypertension is the number one risk factor for strokes and heart disease, both of which kill tens of thousands of people in the UK each year. The Heart Foundation in the UK notes that Coronary Heart Disease is the single most common cause of death before the age of 65, accounting for 16% male and 10% female deaths.

Studies have started to indicate that CBD oil may be a natural and effective treatment for high blood pressure. Research has linked CBD-rich Cannabis Oil with several benefits for the heart and circulatory system, including the ability to lower high blood pressure. Interestingly, a single dose of cannabidiol was enough to demonstrate a reduction blood pressure. Researchers have suggested that the stress- and anxiety-reducing properties of CBD products are responsible for its ability to help lower blood pressure.
